Burrowing Owls are charismatic birds currently at risk due to decreased habitat from urbanization. Antelope Island State Park in Utah offers refuge to these birds. The HWI team monitors the park’s artificial burrows built to hold under the weight of bison roaming the area. We study their nesting attempts each spring and summer and maintain the burrows to preserve the island’s population.
This design was created in partnership with a Utah native, Travis Bone, to capture their playful spirit!
